Even this one doesn’t look right.
Nobody has a brake master cylinder in stock. In fact, no one has any at all, even nationally. O’Reilly’s can send me a remanufactured one from California — but without a reservoir... That’s good because I don’t really need brake fluid for my brakes.
And my faith taking the one off mine — 39 years old, you know — and slapping it on a supposed “totally works” reman is zero. This truck has had barely any problems, but when it does parts are hell to find. “OEM” exhaust flange was definitely not OEM. Aftermarket shocks were for God knows what actual vehicle. And other things I can’t recall.
Igoogle for a brake master cylinder. Many results for ones that totalllly fit — except the image immediately shows, “Hell no it isn’t.” Including many result for ones for the updated iteration of 22R, which I had to replace on my last pickup. Yeah, not gonna work on my 20R, but nice try.
There are no Corona s, Celicas, or pickups in any junkyards within 100 miles of me equipped with the 20R, so no luck there.
Spring is here and I need my pickup... I also need to not die.
2019 has plagued me with many first-world inconveniences thus far.

Oof, that sucks. I thought Toyota, like, never changed anything so their parts are interchangeable between many different models and years? I guess there’s not much left after 40.
If you find any suitable vehicles in any of the three Portland Pick’n’Pulls , I can go grab the part you need, then either meet you halfway or ship it up to you. Been a while since I went out to a junkyard.

A big myth. In fact, even many parts between the first 22R and the updated 22R are totally incompatible. Certainly less so going back to my 20R.

These guys have one in stock, but it looks like the one in your photo. Says it fits the ‘80 rwd pickup with the SR20, though.

dont get too hung up on old bits... a lot of stuff like seals and shit can be made to order if you have a decent fabricator nearby

I have no idea, but I'm not interested in dropping some coin and waiting over a week to find out. Would be better just to buy a completed new one, reman or aftermarket. If they existed.

It looks to be a new part, not reman’d. Also, It says Aisin in the picture, and Aisin own Advics and are an OEM Toyota supplier, so it should be a quality part.

Normally pretty easy to find something else that can be made to work with little effort. Do you have an old school auto parts store you can take yours into and let them try to find something close?

It sadly is. Spring is the worst season for new construction year after year. But the explanation for this is that all remodelers and builders *plan* to have various projects completed in spring or early summer, but always take far longer. Homes here in a hot market sell much more quickly with low inventory and "palatable" pricing. But when you miss your completion date and now you're listing in summer or fall with higher prices AND higher inventory, suddenly it's mass panic. I have an account that, shall we say, overestimated the market and had numerous high end projects complete at too high of price in too competitive of market. They are suddenly struggling to a great degree.

My dad is a contractor, and my mom was a realtor, so I experienced these cycles all my life. My dad doesn’t have much in the way of boundaries, so I was aware of a lot of things that I had no business knowing as a kid. Part of why I went into teaching instead of construction, was the relative stability and predictably of it.
You strike me as being much better at saving for the slow times than my dad though. He was apt to blow it all on stereo gear and boats.

My level of “treating” myself is largely based on purchasing a 6-pack. I currently work long hours for less money, which is exactly what I predicted for 2019. A weaker housing market requires more work to make end’s meet than a crazy market, where more hours equals misery but fat paychecks.
